Dear
Soulmate Manifesters,
This weekend we went to see the hilarious new film DATE NIGHT, starring
Tina Fey & Steve Carrel. It’s a madcap comedy about a
boring suburban New Jersey couple trying to rev up their marriage with
a date night in the City. Yes, their marriage has gotten a bit flat if
not totally stale – with her career as a realtor (in a
severely depressed market) and his as an accountant (looking for $600
savings for couple who wants to spend it on a trip to Cancun to have
sex on the beach) Plus, if you factor in two rambunctious kids to the
equation you have a marriage void of any romance and any resemblance of
excitement. On top of all this they just learned that their best
friends are headed for a divorce and they secretly fear it might be
contagious. This action comedy is fast-paced, funny, and smart and
ultimately our couple discovers how to reconnect to the magic of their
love and they’re actually able to stoke those romantic fires
once again. If Tina Fey were going to offer any soulmate tips I imagine
this is what her words of wisdom would be:
1) Even when you are super-tired, enthusiasm and authentically
“showing up” for your mate counts for a lot.
2) Boring is not necessarily a bad thing in fact finding your rhythm as
a couple is healthy and actually beneficial to longevity. If things
were exciting all the time you would be even be more tired so as a
“couple” find your own groove and appreciate the
music you’ve co- created---whatever your melody is!!
3) You don’t have to do everything yourself because that just
builds resentment, anger and frustration and drains your spirit. Open
your heart to your partner and ask for help when needed and be sure to
remember to acknowledge and offer praise to your mate. (Even when they
don’t do things exactly the way you would have done them.)
We thoroughly enjoyed the film – the humor, the plot-twists,
even the car chase scene was thrilling but it was the messages about
marriage that I’ll most remember: a great relationship is
first and foremost about love, trust, devotion, and friendship and even
when things get a little boring (or stale) it only takes a little bit
of effort and creativity to spice things up.
Wishing you love, laughter, and magical kisses,
Arielle
